Chapter 1: Beginnings

If you are reading these histories you must know they describe the Barbarian Gorgoroth. The beginnings of this man, as with most half-orcs, are not easily revealed. Half-orcs are commonly the product of gruesome circumstances. Unlike other half races (half-elves for example) in which two adults from different races form a union, Orcss and Humans rarely meet each other in a non-hostile situation. As such most of them are the products of rape and pillage from an Orc invasion.

In the event that a human woman bearing a half-orc child lives long enough for birthing there remains still a hard road ahead for the young one. Most times the child is cast out of the human village and either dies in the wilderness or lives on as a loner in the forest, which explains that the "Half-orc Barbarian" is more common than any other well known half-orc. If this does not happen his future is generally that of a brawler or strong-armed guard in a big city. Their intelligence doesn't allow them much else in most cases.

Our discussion, however, has to do with Gorgoroth and we can now dispose of the academics pertaining to the average Half-orc. In whatever way he was borne into this world he arrived here in the small town of Hommlet. Most amateur historians will at least recognize that name because of the famous "Saviors of Hommlet." This is no coincidence.

At a young age our subject left his town to search in the woods for the orc tribe that he descended from. And it is important to note that a young age, 10, for humans is more like a 15 or 16 in half-orc terms. He was a full adult when he left. His trek was destined to be fruitful but not in the way that he had foreseen. The orcs that were responsible for him had long left the area; however, in those woods there lived one of the aforementioned half-orcs that had been cast out long before. He was reaching an older age and fortune found him when young Gorgoroth stumbled upon his shack in the wilderness. Not much is known about this man besides his name, Hovek, and that he taught Gorgoroth the ways of the forest. In helping young Gorgoroth become acustomed to the forest he also created for himself an easier lifestyle. His bones weary and joints becoming brittle he now had someone to share the load of hunting and cooking, and also someone to speak with, teach, and tell stories.
